The 2016-2017 School Year:
Dear Students and parents
Welcome to the Sister Marie Laurence School. For those students who are returning welcome back and for our new students we are happy to welcome you to the SML family. We are in the process of getting to know each other and discussing expectations. Your children will receive a well rounded education at our school. We expect trust, involvement, and cooperation from you the parents. It is extremely important that we build a relationship with each other. A monthly school newsletter will be available every month to keep you the parent abreast of what is happening at our school. This newsletter will also be available on our website. We look forward to working with you and your children. On behalf of the teachers and staff, I extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to you as we begin this 2016-2017 school year.
Table manners is a very important thing for children to know and use effectively in their lives. Coming down to the last two weeks of school, we held various etiquette classes for the children.
- · Saying please and thank you
- · How to sit at a table
- · How to hold your utensils
- · How to eat properly
- · How to use your inside voice while communicating with others around the table
We first started out with something small as breakfast. They had to make their own sandwiches by cutting the crust and buttering it. The objective of this class was to let them learn how to hold the bread properly and balance a butter knife in their other hand. There are a lot of children that would use the end of a spoon or fork to butter their bread. By showing them the right way, they will soon enough know
The week before school ended, Group 5 came formally dressed and had lunch at school. This was not only to have a fun time with their mates, but to implement the skills that were taught to them.
Besides seeing them enjoy the great food, they performed very well on their table manners and team work. We will continue to instil this in them to ensure that they grow into professional men and women at the table.
